Mafia Island
Quiet beaches, marine life and a slower Indian Ocean rhythm.

From the coral waters of Mafia and Zanzibar to the endless Serengeti, Tanzania is a journey of ancient landscapes, extraordinary wildlife and deeply personal discovery.
Tanzania, where wilderness becomes timeless
Tanzania offers a rare sense of scale. The country moves from warm Indian Ocean islands to the sweeping plains of the Serengeti, the volcanic drama of Ngorongoro, the baobab country of Tarangire and the ancient landscapes surrounding Olduvai Gorge.
A well-designed journey does not try to rush through every highlight. It gives the Serengeti time to breathe, allows Ngorongoro to reveal its quiet grandeur, and leaves space for the coast to soften the pace after safari.
Whether the journey begins in Arusha, Zanzibar or Mafia Island, Tanzania rewards thoughtful combinations, longer stays and experiences shaped around the traveller rather than a fixed checklist.
Wildlife, coast, archaeology, volcanic landscapes and ancient migration routes come together in one extraordinary destination.

Quiet beaches, marine life and a slower Indian Ocean rhythm.

Swahili history, spice, ocean light and timeless coastal culture.

Endless plains, big skies and one of Africa’s great wildlife theatres.

A volcanic amphitheatre rich in wildlife and extraordinary scenery.

Baobabs, elephants and golden seasonal landscapes.

Ancient earth, archaeological history and a profound sense of time.

Forest, escarpment, lake and wildlife in a compact, varied setting.
Tanzania works best when each region has enough time to reveal its character. Your route can be shaped around wildlife, the coast, history, family travel, photography or the simple desire to move slowly through beautiful places.
Choose Mafia for quiet beaches, warm water, marine experiences and a more secluded alternative to the busier coastal routes.
Combine Stone Town, spice landscapes, dhow sailing and time beside the Indian Ocean in a journey shaped by Swahili culture.
Allow time for dawn game drives, open plains, big-cat viewing and the changing rhythms of the migration and resident wildlife.
Experience the scale of the crater, its wildlife-rich floor and the highland landscapes that make this region so distinctive.
Look for elephants beneath baobabs, seasonal river landscapes and a quieter, richly textured safari atmosphere.
Bring depth to the journey through the archaeological landscapes that connect Tanzania’s present wilderness with the story of human origins.
Enjoy a varied transition between Arusha and the northern circuit, with forest, lake, escarpment and birdlife.
Begin with the cool air of dawn, when the plains are quiet and the first movement begins beyond camp.
Pair safari with Mafia or Zanzibar for ocean time, marine life, dhow sailing and Swahili culture.
Connect Olduvai Gorge and Ngorongoro with a deeper understanding of the landscapes that shaped East Africa.
Tarangire offers a distinctive visual language of golden grass, immense trees and seasonal wildlife movement.
Use a private vehicle and longer stays when flexibility, photography or family pacing matters most.
Leave space for sundowners, lantern-lit dinners and the stillness that makes Tanzania feel timeless.
Tanzania can be deeply rewarding for families when the route is built around sensible travel times, suitable camps and enough time to rest between activities.
From 1 October 2026, foreign visitors entering Mainland Tanzania should be prepared to obtain mandatory inbound travel insurance through the National Insurance Corporation or an authorised partner. The current framework provides cover for emergency medical treatment, evacuation, repatriation and baggage loss, with a standard premium of US$44 and validity of up to 92 days, subject to the published terms.
Qualifying EAC and SADC travellers may be exempt from the Mainland requirement. Confirm the current rule for your nationality and first point of entry before departure.
Check Mainland insuranceVisitors entering Zanzibar are required to obtain the applicable mandatory inbound travel insurance through the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation. The current official Zanzibar portal states that the requirement applies even when a visitor already holds separate travel or medical insurance.
For itineraries combining Zanzibar and Mainland Tanzania, the applicable policy depends on the first point of entry and the policy’s validity. Current official guidance says visitors should not be required to buy duplicate policies for the same journey when a valid policy already applies.
Check Zanzibar insuranceTravel rules, prices, exemptions and implementation procedures can change. Verify the official insurance requirement before publishing or travelling.
