Akagera National Park, Volcanoes National Park, Nyungwe National Park, and Lake Kivu — offer a rich tapestry of landscapes and unforgettable wildlife experiences. Located in eastern Rwanda, Akagera National Park is the country’s only savannah park, teeming with diverse wildlife including lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and the Big Five, thanks to the recent reintroduction of lions and rhinos. The park’s varied habitats of wetlands, woodlands, and lakes make it a paradise for birdwatchers. In the northwest, Volcanoes National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is one of only three places in the world where visitors can see endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. This lush park is also home to golden monkeys and many bird species, making it a prime destination for primate and nature enthusiasts.
In southwestern Rwanda, Nyungwe National Park boasts one of Africa’s oldest rainforests, renowned for its exceptional biodiversity with chimpanzees and 12 other primate species. Visitors can walk along a breathtaking canopy suspension bridge and explore the forest on guided nature hikes. Meanwhile, the picturesque Lake Kivu, straddling the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, offers a serene escape with its scenic beaches, volcanic islands, and opportunities for kayaking, boat cruises, and water sports. Together, these attractions showcase Rwanda’s extraordinary natural beauty, from savannahs and misty volcanoes to rainforests and tranquil lakes, promising a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.
