Saruni Rhino

The camp is made up of  4 unique “bandas” (stone cottages) located in the large and remote Sera Conservancy, in the wild, undiscovered northern frontier of Kenya. It is a little over 1.5 hours’ drive from our Saruni Samburu lodge in nearby Kalama Conservancy. It is unique not only for the unforgettable, raw beauty of its habitat, but because, as the name says, it is the gateway to an extraordinary place: the rhino sanctuary where black rhinos have been successfully reintroduced and are guarded by the community.
The camp offers several diverse experiences. One is the first on-foot black rhino tracking experience in East Africa. This incredible walking safari provides a thrilling adventure and the opportunity for guests to actively contribute to the protection of this iconic species. But it is not all about the rhinos. Herds of elephants populate this vast landscape, there is amazing birdwatching, and cultural experiences with the “singing wells”. Northern Kenya is a largely unexplored and uninhabited expanse of wild beauty rich in colour and experiences.

Saruni Samburu

This is a deluxe, design lodge located in Kenya’s wild north and the only lodge in Kalama Conservancy, a community-owned wildlife reserve that borders Samburu National Reserve, with 200,000 acres of unspoiled wilderness to explore and enjoy exclusively. It has 6 villas that are open and spacious, heralding spectacular views over Kenya’s Northern Frontier District and Mount Kenya in the distance. Guests are guided from start to finish by Samburu warriors who are passionate about their land and their culture, learning first-hand about their fascinating customs and traditions and their ancient, local knowledge – a truly authentic experience. The vastness and purity of this landscape, combined with the untouched local culture, elegant comfort and welcoming hospitality makes for an intimate, exceptional and life-changing experience.

Basecamp wilderness

The camp is free from artificial luxury and modern disturbances and provides the perfect escape close to nature with optimal tranquility and stunning sunrise views. The camp is tucked away deep inside the “Saddle Valley” in the heart of Mara Naibosho Conservancy, one of the most beautiful and important wildlife areas in Kenya and the center of a successful conservation experiment led by Maasai landowners and investors. Its 5 tents allow for complete privacy and ultimate views of the savannah. The dining tent offers a romantic sitting area with comfortable leather chairs, carefully selected reading materials.

Samburu Game Reserve.

Samburu National Reserve is a game reserve on the banks of the Ewaso Ng’iro river in Kenya and bordering Buffalo springs National park and the area is inhabited by the Samburu people. It is 165 km2 (64 sq mi) in size and is 350 km (220 mi) from Nairobi. It ranges in elevation from 800 to 1,230 m (2,620 to 4,040 ft).

The reserve is home to diverse wildlife species and In the middle of the reserve, lies the Ewaso Ng’iro River which flows through doum palm groves and thick riverine forests. It provides water for the samburu community and animals without which life would be a challenge.

The Reserve was one of the two areas in which conservationists George and Joy Adamson raised Elsa the Lioness, made famous in the best-selling book and award-winning movie Born Free. The Elephant Watch Camp, of which Saba Douglas-Hamilton is director, lies within the park. Samburu National Reserve is also the home of Kamunyak, a lioness famous for adopting oryx calves.

It also borders Kalama conservancy, which is Eight kilometers north of Archer’s Post. The 384-sq-km wildlife conservancy, which opened in 2004 and is home to Grevy’s zebras, elephants and reticulated giraffes, among others, and acts as a vital wildlife corridor for animals migrating between the Samburu and Marsabit areas, its drier habitat means animals are considerably less visible than in Samburu.

Maasai Mara Game reserve

The Maasai Mara National Reserve offers a transformative experience blending Maasai culture, the Great Migration, and bush walks. Immersing in Maasai culture unveils their vibrant attire, intricate beadwork, and traditional wisdom about the land and wildlife. Witnessing the Great Migration is awe- inspiring as millions of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles traverse the plains, facing predators and crossing rivers in their quest for fresh pastures. Guided bush walks provide an intimate connection with nature, led by experienced Maasai guides who share insights into the reserve and diverse flora and fauna. This holistic experience allows visitors to appreciate the intricate balance of life in the Mara and gain a deeper understanding of its ecological significance. Whether observing wildlife migrations or engaging with Maasai traditions, each aspect contributes to a profound and unforgettable journey through one of Africa’s most renowned natural reserves.
