Central Kalahari Game Reserve

The Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR) is the largest, most remotely situated reserve in Southern Africa, and the second largest wildlife reserve in the world, encompassing 52,800 sq km (20,385 sq mi). CKGR is unique in that it was originally established with the intention of serving as a place of sanctuary for the San, in the heart of Botswana, where they could live their traditional hunter-gatherer way of life. Now it is possible to meet San bushmen in the reserve whilst exploring this vast ecosystem.
The landscape is dominated by silver terminalia sandveld, acacias, and Kalahari appleleaf, interspersed with grasslands and dotted with occasional sand dunes, pans and shallow fossil river valleys. During and shortly after good summer rains, the flat grasslands of the reserve’s northern reaches teem with wildlife, which gather at the best grazing areas. These include large herds of springbok and gemsbok, as well as wildebeest, hartebeest and eland.

Okavango Delta

The Okavango Delta is the largest intact inland delta in the world, and is exceptionally rich in wildlife. Situated deep within the Kalahari Basin, the Delta is characterized by meandering deep water channels lined with papyrus reeds that open up into larger lagoons and islands; these in turn give way to seasonal floodplains and eventually large tracts of dry land where animals congregate. Fed by the Okavango River and rains from the highlands of Angola, the Delta can vary in size from 15,000 sq km (5,800 sq mi) during drier periods to a staggering 22,000 sq kms (8,500 sq mi) during wetter periods.

Victoria Falls

The town of Victoria Falls lies on the southern banks of the Zambezi River at the western edge of the falls that it is named after. After David Livingstone set his eyes on the “smoke that thunders” in 1855, the settlement was later developed in 1901 when the possibility of using the waterfall for hydro-electric power was explored, and expanded when the railway from Bulawayo reached the town shortly before the Victoria Falls Bridge was opened in April 1905, connecting Southern Rhodesia (later Rhodesia; now Zimbabwe) to Northern Rhodesia (later Zambia).
Vic Falls, as it is affectionately abbreviated to, is known as the adventure capital of Africa, with any number of outdoor and adventure activities to choose from. As well as world-class white water rafting, there is one of the world’s highest bungee jumps, skydiving, swing slides, helicopter rides and more. Although the town is small, it has a vibrant feel to it with lots of craft shops, pop up craft breweries and cafes, and relies heavily on tourism.

Maasai Mara Game reserve.

The Maasai Mara National Reserve offers a transformative experience blending Maasai culture, the Great Migration, and bush walks. Immersing in Maasai culture unveils their vibrant attire, intricate beadwork, and traditional wisdom about the land and wildlife. Witnessing the Great Migration is awe- inspiring as millions of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles traverse the plains, facing predators and crossing rivers in their quest for fresh pastures. Guided bush walks provide an intimate connection with nature, led by experienced Maasai guides who share insights into the reserve and diverse flora and fauna. This holistic experience allows visitors to appreciate the intricate balance of life in the Mara and gain a deeper understanding of its ecological significance. Whether observing wildlife migrations or engaging with Maasai traditions, each aspect contributes to a profound and unforgettable journey through one of Africa’s most renowned natural reserves.

Timbavati

Timbavati, meaning “the place where something sacred came down to Earth from the Heavens,” is a 130,000 acre private game reserve that shares an unfenced border with the Kruger National Park. Forming part of a huge conservation area that spans across international borders and incorporates a number of biomes, the Timbavati remains one of the strongholds for the Big Five; lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino are all regularly spotted, and even the endangered Cape hunting dog thrives in the area. In addition to over 350 species of birds, there are dozens of reptiles and amphibians.

Kariega Game Reserve

Kariega Game Reserve is a malaria-free Big 5 private game reserve situated near Port Elizabeth, thus forming a natural extension to Cape Town and the Garden Route.
Family owned and managed, it would be accurate to say that the gradual growth and development of the now expansive 11,500 hectare reserve is one of the most accomplished conservation projects in the Eastern Cape. Kariega’s landscape spans across five different ecosystems, resulting in extremely high game carrying capacities which results in Kariega’s game viewing and birding experience being unsurpassed in the Eastern Cape.

The Great Tsau Hill stands alone as the only elevated feature within the vast 50,000 square kilometer Central Kalahari Game Reserve, providing breathtaking vistas across the grasslands. The Great Tsau Hill features 10 tent cabins, each able to house up to two guests. These cabins are equipped with compact, private bathrooms equipped with a bucket shower and toilet. Additionally, there are more spacious facilities with showers accessible for daytime use. Each cabin is furnished with a private porch, offering scenic views of the surrounding bush. Every bed is provided with a mosquito net, and insect repellent spray is made available in the cabins.

Mopiri Camp

Mopiri Camp – translated as ‘’Little Island’’- offers a classic water camp experience. Situated on a three-kilometre permanent lagoon, surrounded by sparkling Okavango waters, Mopiri sits among quintessential Okavango scenery. Activities focus on the water, with boat trips through the winding channels of papyrus, and peaceful mokoro rides gliding through the shallower waters, as you explore this unique eco-system.
